New Rochelle, NY 2016 Iona University, with a goal to house 60 percent of its undergraduate students on campus, acquired this property adjacent to the campus, which was identified as the perfect location for a new residence hall. The seven-story building is estimated to house up to 350 full-time students, while the ground floor commercial space will provide property-tax income to the city and revitalize North Avenue.
Contextually, the addition negotiates a confined spatial envelope between the Admissions Building and a visual axis with the library across the Green. Subtle shifts in the building geometry allow view corridors and pedestrian walkways to cohere to the monumental landscape.
The Iona University logo was applied to the glass as a frit pattern stretching across multiple stories marking a bold new identity for the college at the corner of Summit Avenue and North Avenue.
