Princeton, NJ (August 10, 2020) Studio Hillier, an award-winning architecture and urbanism practice in downtown Princeton, is pleased to welcome Caryn Lee Farnum, LEED AP; Julia Stanat, AICP, RA, LEED AP; Michael Filomeno; Yusuke Okabayashi, AIA, and Julian Edgren, Associate AIA.


Architectural and Interior Designer draws upon 10 years of professional experience in New York City

Caryn Lee Farnum is an Architectural and Interior Designer with 10 years of experience in all phases of planning, design, and construction. Lee Farnum is skilled in Commercial and Residential Architecture and Renovations, Museum and Transportation Architecture. She comes to Studio Hillier after working at firms like Farnum and Lee Studio where as a Principal she directed the interior renovations of iconic Webster Hall which was recently selected as Honoree in the 2020 NYCXDesign Awards and Sahadi’s Industry City which was featured in the New York Times; Lara Eldin Design where she was an Architectural and Interior Designer on several commercial and residential projects; Guy Nordenson and Associates where she was a Project Manager of the New York City Aerial Cable Transit System, and a Designer for the Corning Museum of Glass (Thomas Phifer & Partners, Architect), John v. Tunney Bridge at the Hammer Museum (Michael Maltzan, Architect), and Menil Drawing Institute (Johnston Marklee, Architect) all of which won numerous awards; and Bernheimer Architecture as a Senior Project Designer where she worked on a variety of projects.

At Studio Hillier, Lee Farnum is involved in the design development of the New Jersey City University Center for Music, Dance and Theatre, and the Performing Arts Center.

“Caryn is a versatile designer with a portfolio that includes commercial and residential interior design, historic renovations, and high-precision structural detailing.  She will continue our tradition of richly designed spaces and devotion to detail,” says J. Robert Hillier, LhD, FAIA, Managing Principal of Studio Hillier.

Farnum earned a Master of Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis where she was the Trivers Associates Scholarship recipient and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Duke University.


Licensed architect and certified planner brings 18 years of experience in architecture and planning

Julia Stanat is a certified planner and licensed architect with 18 years of experience in all phases of planning, design, and construction. She is a Registered Architect in New York State and holds AICP and LEED AP Certifications.  Stanat is skilled in Academic Planning, Urban Planning, Feasibility Studies, Renovation, Sustainable Design, and Architecture. She comes to Studio Hillier after working at firms like Perkins Eastman where she was a Planner and Senior Architect; Goldman Sachs where she was an Internal Planner on several of the company’s campuses; Gwathmey Siegel & Associates where she worked on the Renovation and Addition to Art and Architecture Building at Yale University, and others. Her work has been published in several magazines and she has been a Design Juror at some of the top architecture programs in the US.

At Studio Hillier, Stanat is planning the historical restoration of buildings on Witherspoon Street in Princeton.

Stanat earned a Master of Architecture with a focus in urban planning from Yale University and a Bachelor of Architecture from Tulane University where she was the recipient of the Alpha Rho Chi Medal.


A Designer brings 5 years of work experience 

Michael Filomeno has 5 years of work experience as a Designer and Project Manager of various projects from schematic design through construction. Projects include single and multifamily residences, commercial offices, and public installations. He comes to Studio Hillier after working at Future Expansion Architects in NYC and Hillmann Consulting in Atlantic Highlands, NJ.

At Studio Hillier, Michael is involved in the design development of multi-family housing in Princeton.

Filomeno earned a Master of Architecture from the New Jersey Institute of Technology from which he graduated magna cum laude and was the recipient of the AIA Henry Adams Medal and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Rutgers University.


Pei Cobb Freed and Partners’ Senior Associate, Yusuke Okabayashi, NCARB, AIA, joins Studio Hillier as a Senior Architect

Yusuke Okabayashi is a licensed architect with 15 years of experience in large project design and construction oversight. Okabayashi comes to Studio Hillier after working at Pritzker Prize laureate I.M. Pei’s firm, Pei Cobb Freed and Partners, for the past 15 years where he was a Senior Associate and Project Manager of various large projects in India, Italy, and the United States. Okabayashi is highly skilled in Construction Administration and brings his expertise in curtain wall design to Studio Hillier. As Project Architect, his recent project,  a 1.7 million sq. ft. mixed-use campus was awarded “Milestone Project of the Year” (2019) by Silicon Valley Business Journal.

At Studio Hillier, Okabayashi is working on a dramatic new urban supermarket in Jersey City.

“Yusuke brings tremendous experience from Pei Cobb Freed and Partners as a Senior Associate. He will be crucial in some of the large projects our firm has undertaken,” says J. Robert Hillier, LhD, FAIA, Managing Principal of Studio Hillier. 

Okabayashi earned a Master of Architecture from Princeton University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Chicago where he graduated with Special Honors.


A versatile Designer brings 4 years of experience in Architecture and Fine Arts

Julian Edgren has 4 years of work experience as a Designer. He is a dedicated and passionate designer with a background in both fine arts and architecture. His work at Studio Hillier encompasses a wide range of creative activities, from digital fabrication to construction detailing to the production of rendered images and videos.

At Studio Hillier, Edgren is involved in the design of an exciting waterfront project in South Amboy, NJ.

“Julian has been with us working part-time while pursuing his architecture degree. We are so delighted to have him join us full-time,” says J. Robert Hillier, LhD, FAIA, Managing Principal of Studio Hillier.

Edgren earned a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Hillier College of Architecture and Design where he was the recipient of the Graduate Integrated Studio Award, the Master of Architecture Medal, and the AIA Henry Adams Medal.
