FELICIAN UNIVERSITY, Rutherford, New Jersey
Studio Hillier, as part of a Design Build Partnership has won a design competition for the Athletic and Recreation Center expansion on the Rutherford Campus of Felician University.
The expansion includes a new basketball arena seating 1,000 spectators, new locker rooms, an enlarged lobby, a new student fitness center, coaching staff offices, and a VIP observation lounge overlooking the main basketball court. Besides the new construction, there will be renovations in the existing gymnasium building to better accommodate visiting teams and both men and women game officials.
The expansion takes into account the importance of “The Castle”, the original Fairleigh Dickinson mansion on the campus by its arrangement, celebrates the other existing campus buildings. In particular the building’s design creates a new campus courtyard that will serve as a new social space on the campus.
Studio Hillier is teamed with Del Sano Construction of Union, New Jersey with whom they have a twenty five year working relationship. Construction should begin in late spring of this year.
