StarMedia
Flexible Media
New York, NY

Project Type

StarMedia, one of the first online networks connecting to a rapidly increasing Latin American audience, grew quickly from a staff of 6 people to more than 400. StarMedia needed to find a new space that would help accomplish several goals: to convey the image of a dynamic company with a visually-oriented product, to build a technology infrastructure that supported the needs of the employees and to provide for future growth through the use of flexible furnishings and floor plans.

Versatility

To accommodate rapid staff growth, the architects created a design that gives StarMedia the ability to quickly reconfigure its workstations. The furniture system offers a high degree of versatility; it can be quickly converted from individual to group workstations, or a conference room, depending on personnel and equipment needs.

Technology Upgrade

Many staff members’ workspaces had to house two or more monitors and a variety of hardware components. Unusual data, communications, electric and cooling requirements were needed to support the technology infrastructure. Hillier collaborated with the engineering firm to assure that upgrades were accomplished on schedule and coincided with design work so that renovations were as cost-effective as possible.
